Abstract

Native handicrafts in the current situation need deep studies from the point of view of methods and production process. In the modern world, co-creation is used as a scientific and productive model in many collaborative activities between different specialists. It seems that this method is useful for the revival, preservation and development of a local art-industry. Based on this, the current research aims to examine the approach and process of co-creation in handicrafts with an emphasis on the model proposed by Sanders and Steppers. In other words, the current research will explain the steps and how to participate designers and artisans based on the co-creation model. The current study is qualitative and based on the descriptive phenomenological method. The data is also collected by library method and from internet sources. The results of this research show that co-creation in the first step acts as a capacity to create and transfer knowledge in the field of handicrafts and between people and other industries. Experiential learning and knowledge gained through this type of cooperation is an important element in the professional development of activists in this field. Also, the results show that the designers of this field can act as change agents and be effective from a technical, economic and social point of view. On the other hand, artisans will also transfer and expand their experimental and tacit knowledge through this path. Finally, co-creation can be used as an inspiring approach for the development of local handicrafts in many regions of Iran by the manufacturers and designers of this field.
