The art of turquoise carving and carving lines on turquoise stone is one of the traditional and ornamental arts that has been popular in Mashhad since the distant past. The city of Mashhad has been chosen as the world city of precious and semi-precious stones by the World Handicrafts Council. The art of carving is one of the subsets of the art of turquoise carving, and engraving artists carefully carve lines and motifs on the gem. The turquoise carving artists have succeeded in making beautiful paintings from this blue gemstone by carving turquoise in the form of letters using the art of calligraphy. The purpose of the present research was to study the forms of carving, the linear form of the turquoise gem, the recognition and analysis of the types of lines, motifs and icons, and its application in the art of engraving and turquoise carving of Mashhad. The main question of the research is explained as follows: How are the cutting shapes, types of lines and motifs used in the contemporary art of engraving and turquoise carving of Mashhad classified from a qualitative perspective? The method of conducting this research is descriptive-analytical, and the statistical population was the contemporary turquoise carvings of Mashhad, which were selected by purposeful sampling. The findings of the research indicate that in the contemporary period, in addition to the previous shapes (circle, oval), square, conical and cylindrical, polygonal shapes and slimy and khatai motifs are used for gem cutting. Engraving of icons and inscriptions of names and supplications with thulth, naskh and nastaliq lines on turquoise gemstones is done on a custom basis. Due to the use of new tools and methods, the quality of cutting has increased. Due to the limitation in the number of engravers, scarcity, high cost and degree of hardness
