According to the principles of change in the theory of evolution, it is possible to Study the visual changes of symbols of water and plants in the altars of the Islamic period. The present analysis seeks to answer this question, what is the relationship between the representation of water and plants Symbol in the altars of the Islamic period and its earlier visual patterns in pre-Islamic art in Iran. This study is descriptive-analytical in terms of methodology. The data collection method is based on library review and data analysis was done qualitatively. Water and trees in religious narratives before Islam and then in the text of the Holy Quran represent the evolution of this mythological model into a religious phenomenon. In such a way that the expression of the truths of the new religion (Islam), that is, salvation and faith, has been combined with the previous holy symbols. Water and tree, which are symbols of hope for eternal life on earth in ancient myths, have been changed with an emphasis on metaphysics, and heaven has become the symbol of eternal water and tree for believers. Sacred trees, which were in triple combinations with gods or mythical protectors in Iranian ancient art, are placed in the center of the altar in the form of a tree of life or a spiral plant. Sometimes the side columns of the altar are decorated with plant motifs, which is a stylized form of a tree. The symbol of water can be seen with the presence of the jar in the altars above and below the columns, which is the abstract and evolved form of the ancient representation of the jar in the ancient works of Iran.
