During the Qajar period (1344-1210 AH), due to important international events and the expansion of Iran's relations with other countries, many ambassadors and travelers entered Iran and wrote down their observations as travelogues. Since these travelogues contained information on all matters, carpets, as an art and craft, were of interest to orientalists and they also made references to it in their observations. As we know, carpets enjoyed a special status as a commercial commodity during the Qajar period. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to study the production and export of Iranian hand-woven carpets during the Qajar era from the perspective of orientalists, and the main question is what were the views and opinions of Western travelers regarding the quality of the texture, design, and role of carpets produced in Iran during the Qajar period? This research is historical in approach and descriptive-analytical in method and the data collection method is library. The statistical population consists of all Western and Orientalist tourists who came to Iran during the Qajar period and the sample size is 20 people from this population. The results of the research show that the interest in buying and trading Iranian carpets was not only due to economic and trade issues but also due to artistic reasons. During their stay in Iran, they recorded their opinions, which were due to their own tastes and those of the West, especially England and France, in their travelogues, which included finely woven, thin and distinguished carpets, small Turkmen cloth carpets, carpets with floral and geometric patterns or floral designs (Herati and pomegranate) busy and cheerful such as Mashhad carpets, herbal, bright and soft colors such as blue, cream, and red.
